Your Complete Guide to Unilock Patio Installation in Chicago

January 28, 20268 min readBy Russel J. Lokun

A Unilock paver patio is one of the best investments you can make in your Chicago suburb home. Not only does it dramatically enhance your outdoor living space, but it also adds significant value to your property. As a licensed Unilock authorized installer, we've installed hundreds of paver patios throughout the north and northwest Chicago suburbs.

Why Choose Unilock Pavers?

Unilock is North America's leading manufacturer of concrete paving stones and retaining wall products. Their pavers are manufactured to withstand the freeze-thaw cycles that are so common in the Chicago area, and they come with a lifetime guarantee against cracking and breaking.

Popular Unilock Products for Chicago Patios

Umbriano — A large-format paver with a smooth, contemporary appearance that's perfect for modern homes. Available in a range of neutral tones.

Brussels Block — A classic tumbled paver that creates a timeless, Old World appearance. Extremely popular in traditional Chicago suburb homes.

Beacon Hill Flagstone — Mimics the look of natural flagstone with the durability and consistency of manufactured pavers. Excellent for irregular patterns.

The Installation Process

Proper installation is critical to the longevity of your paver patio. The process begins with excavation to remove existing soil and create a stable base. We then install a compacted gravel base (typically 6-8 inches), followed by a layer of bedding sand, and finally the pavers themselves. Polymeric sand is swept into the joints to lock everything in place.
